this SD abortion law is anti-women's rights

normally i don't really get into this whole us v.s. them mentality but i'm really steaming about the south dakota legislature pushing through their anti-abortion law. this is just one more instance of the national right wing movement to use and abuse south dakotans.
the majority of people i know in south dakota don't think abortion is the answer, but they also don't think that it should be against the law. they all seem to believe that THE PERSON ... the WOMAN ... is responsible for making a choice. they may not agree with a choice a person makes, but they feel it shouldn't be a law forced down people's throats.
it's easy for people who've NEVER had to deal with problem pregnancies firsthand, to say that abortion is an evil thing. but laws shouldn't be imposed on everyone when they're written by people who don't have to scramble just to make ends meet. hard enough considering abortion from a moral standpoint and a health standpoint ... a woman with a problem pregnancy certainly shouldn't also have to deal with legal threats.
i'm NOT saying that abortion should ever be thought of as a method of birth control -- i'm simply saying that we need to recognize that if men have legal control over their bodies, so should women. you don't think they're equal issues? consider this ... men can get viagra without the man's partner having any input in this. men can get vasectomies without the partner's input. so how come WOMEN can't have equal control over their bodies???
you know, its not as if it's even commonplace in south dakota ANYWAY ... the ONLY place you can even get an abortion is in Sioux Falls. and now it's going to be even more impossible. how can right wingers push such an agenda????
the SD legislature is insane ... the only information they feel teens need about sexual issues is abstinence. THEY obviously were never teens, were they?

you have to sort of wonder sometimes. if guys had to experience firsthand a problem pregnancy, would they still joke so casually about it? would they still think its okay to completely outlaw abortion? i agree that abortion isn't birth control. but i find it amazing that the same people who support ONLY abstinence being taught in schools are the same ones pushing to totally outlaw abortion, to get rid of any form of planned parenthood, to say that girls should not have access (with or without parental consent) to forms of birth control. exactly where is this coming from? south dakota already has a problem educating the kids they have. they already have a problem with a shrinking tax base. they already have a problem with funding social programs. so why are they supporting making the tax liability even heavier by enacting a law that will immediately get challenged and will tie up tax dollars in litigation to say nothing of the tax dollars that will now get taken away from education and other programs to monitor and enforce this law? i don't get it. i just don't get it.

Alright, let's think about this rationally, no matter what a guy SAYS... he'll never truly understand what it's like to go through the crudiness of periods and pregancy. Take example A for a moment... I'm talking to my friend and HE says "What? it's not like a big deal, a girl just has to open her legs and push to get the kid out... then she can just give it up for adoption."
WHOA!!! There's a lot fricken more than pushing and opening legs. crimeny!!
If we're going to regulate that abortion is illegal... did they ever stop to think that they should say that masterbation is illegal too? Think about it.. Everytime a guy masterbates and seimen comes out.. he's killing a potential genius or wonderful kid...
What about using condoms? I mean that's the whole argument against pregnancy anyway, you're killing kids.. What about all the stuff that guys can do that isn't illegal but definately kills future children anyway? I'm not a feminist or anything like that, but if a man can choose what to do with his reproductive organs/body, then why can't a woman? It's not a matter of whose right.. it's a matter of choice, and keeping the right to chose.
Furthermore.. let's face it, it's impossible to completely aboloish abortion anyway.. so we should make it legal so that we can implement certain health regulations to ensure that the "mother" isn't harmed in the procedure.
I agree it shouldn't be used as a form of birthcontrol, but the people in legislature for SD right now.. really need a reality check. They tried banning abortion before.. and look where that went.. out the metaphorical window...

in a way its kind of weird. hit the library and find this book by margaret atwood titled the handmaid's tale
i swear, she's amazing in the images she conjures! in many ways the world she describes isn't too far off from the road we seem to be headed down.
