chain maille update

the hauberk LOOKS like a hauberk! well, ok, not like any piccy we've found yet cos we tailored in a vneck -- it eases both the neckline and the big shoulders issue. we still have to coil and cut enough wire to add about 8 inches to the length (he is so NOT thrilled about the tights issue LMAO) but its really looking kewl!

akiko at this point has taken over weaving the hauberk. i think she wants to add a dagget edging but i'm not sure how the jyrbl will react to that. my part in this is basically cutting the coils as fast as jyrbl can turn them out.

the coif is off to a bit of a slow start. its not a simple 4 in 1 -- it starts off circular and u have to kind of build in expansions as u go ... like, i can explain what to watch for or i can do it for him, but its a little harder when he's doing it himself. he gets frustrated but he's doing a great job!

and the cloak. hmmm. jyrbl wants to go with a fairly thick napped fabric. akiko says it will still be hot so he should go with a coarse weave cotton. et moi? i found 7 yards of this scary naugahyde material that looks and feels like coarsely tanned leather, and is enough to make both a cloack and scabbard.

i dunno what we'll end up doing, but its all starting to come together. woooohoooooooooo!!
